Lifestyle Choices
Your lifestyle choices can also affect your health and the way you feel about yourself, this may mean that you are not able to have all the opportunities that life has to give. Lifestyle factors are those that people choose, they have a choice wither to do them or not and they choose to.
Ø Personal hygiene- This includes everyday cleaning such as brushing your teeth, washing your hair, getting showers or baths, keeping your nails clean and short. If you don’t have good personal hygiene then you are going to suffer, people might not want to talk to you if you don’t clean your teeth because they find it disgusting, you should be brushing your teeth at least twice a day. You should be getting showers regularly, as your skin is rubbing off daily to make way for new skin cells this leads to dry skin. You should make sure that your hair is washed regularly and that you are making sure that you brush it so that it does go tatty. If you are keeping your hygiene good then you are going to feel better about yourself and you are going to be more confident in your appearance and you will also feel better being around your friends.
Ø Smoking- Tobacco that is found in cigarettes is legal. It is also very addictive and causes major health issues such as disease and death. All smoking packaging now carry messages from the government to try and get you to stop, these packaging are fitted with images of what smoking does to you and the images are disgusting. It is illegal to smoke indoors in a public place such as an office or a bar; this is to help prevent passive smoking. Passive smoking is when people who don’t smoke themselves are breathing in the smoke and it is damaging their lungs as well. People who smoke have a typical kind of appearance
- Their hands and nails are stained yellow
- Their faces become wrinkled because they have to screw their face
- They are also at risk of having major health conditions such as a Stroke or gum Disease.
If a child is exposed to smoke when they are young then they will
- Be prone to chest infections and asthma
- Do less well at school
- They tend to be smaller and weaker than those who don’t smoke.
Smoking is bad for both your physical and your social health, every time you smoke you are breathing in poison and so are the people around you. Smoking will affect your social health because people might not want to talk to you because you smoke and this means that you might be left on your own whilst others are out enjoying themselves.
Ø Alcohol and Substance abuse- also impacts your health as alcohol is very addictive and so are most drugs. You should never be relying on alcohol or drugs to try and make you happy, drugs and alcohol are depressants and they might make you happy for a while but in the long run they will depress you more than they will make you happy. The NHS are under a lot of stress because of people that are getting into accidents and fights because they are on drugs or they are drunk. This means that people have to wait longer to be seen and this means that they will get aggravated.
Ø Exercise- is very important for your physical health and your emotional health. While you are exercising it is relieving stress and is relaxing you. It also helps you to keep fit and it also helps tone muscles in your body. Lack of exercise means that you could suffer from your joints stiffening, more chance of having a stroke and more chance of becoming obese. Not exercising means that you may suffer from coronary heart disease because you aren’t getting any exercise and this means that there is fat building up the arteries that carry blood and oxygen to your heart. This is why it is important that you have 1 hour of exercise each day, it doesn’t matter wither its swimming, running, walking, cycling or football it is still going to have a positive impact on your health.
Sexual practices- this means having a sexual intimate relationship between you and your partner this can help to keep people happy and healthy. You must make sure that you always use contraception because you don’t want any unplanned and unwanted pregnancies. Sex is good for your physical and emotional health as it makes you bond with your partner more and you will be happy and healthy.
